Made-to-Measure Oak Handrail for a 1/2 Turn Winder Staircase
This recent customer installation is a great example of how a continuous wall-mounted handrail can be designed around a more complicated 1/2 turn winder staircase.
Rather than supplying standard lengths for the customer to cut and adapt on site, the complete handrail was manufactured to the customer's own staircase measurements.
Each individual oak section was cut and precision prepared before dispatch, with the joints and connection points already positioned so that the system arrived ready for installation.

Designed Around a Half-Turn Winder Staircase
Winder staircases can be more challenging than a conventional straight flight because the direction and angle of the handrail changes several times as it follows the stairs.
For this installation, the handrail follows the first stair flight before transitioning around the winder section and continuing onto the upper flight.
Adjustable stainless steel connections allow the different sections to follow the changing angles of the staircase while maintaining the appearance of one continuous handrail.
The combination of the oak rail and satin stainless steel brackets and connectors also works particularly well against the neutral walls and white staircase.
Made to the Customer's Measurements
One of the biggest advantages of our made-to-measure system is that the handrail can be manufactured specifically around the dimensions of the individual staircase.
For this project, the customer supplied the measurements required for each section and we used these to prepare the complete system before delivery.
Every rail section was manufactured to its required length and the necessary connections were prepared in our workshop.
That means there was no need for the customer to cut the oak handrail during installation.
Precision Prepared for DIY Installation
Although this is a bespoke handrail system, it has been designed so that it can still be installed as a DIY project.
Once manufactured, each prepared section has its place within the overall staircase layout. The customer can work around the staircase, fixing the brackets and connecting the individual sections together as the handrail takes shape.
Doing the precision work before dispatch removes much of the difficulty normally associated with creating a continuous handrail around several changes of direction.
The finished installation demonstrates what can be achieved from customer-supplied measurements without requiring specialist handrail cutting or machining on site.

A Continuous Handrail Made for Your Staircase
Every winder staircase is slightly different, which is why we don't expect customers to make a standard kit fit a staircase it wasn't designed for.
If you have a 1/4 turn, 1/2 turn or winder staircase, send us a few photographs and some basic measurements and we can help establish the dimensions required.
We can then manufacture each section specifically for your staircase, precision prepare the components and supply the complete handrail system ready for installation.
